Antivirus                  

Antivirus software is well known due to the spread of malicious software around the world.  These malicious packages are designed to attack, compromise or destroy computer functionality.  Common variants are designed or redesigned to find a host file in a computer.  It acts like a true virus and invades the host using its mask to reduplicate and create havoc or damage to computer software.  It is not uncommon for it to disable installed virus programs and destroy vital Windows operating system files.  Trojans are another variant software that finds their way into a computer and find an open port of entry in which a hacker can later gain entry to cause further damage or retrieve information from your computer.  Worms are also nasty designed programs designed to entwine themselves within your computer causing harm and damage.  Virus generally do not harm hardware but their information can destroy Bios chips, and Hard Drive Boot Information.

Spyware & Adware  

Spyware has become a serious concern and can cause programs to be added to your computer without your knowledge.  Some programs such as key loggers can monitor your keyboard strokes and place them in a file on your computer which can later be accessed by outside hackers so they can collect key information such as passwords, demographic  or sensitive information. Another area is Hijacker Spyware which takes control of your web page or computer resources and can be very difficult to remove.  It is not uncommon to find 100's to 1000's of Spyware or adware software tracks in your computer.  Spyware can even load programs into the computers memory or RAM and steals the resources from the ram necessary for the proper operation of the computer.  Common signs of Spyware are a significant decrease in computer speed and performance.
